Registration is open for the 17th Annual West Virginia University Income Tax Schools, which are sessions designed especially for accountants, tax practitioners, enrolled agents, small business owners and bankers who manage, prepare and file income tax returns.
It is sponsored by the WVU Extension Service Small Farm Center. Interested participants can choose from three options.
A two-day national income tax class will take place Nov. 4-5 in Charleston, and on Nov. 6-7 in Morgantown. This workshop provides training from current and retired IRS personnel on current tax issues, including implications of recent federal healthcare reform.
Members of the Internal Revenue Service, including well-known tax expert Mark Ribas, will present during the session.
“Mark’s 39-year history with the IRS coupled with his gift for information delivery uniquely qualifies him as a first-class teacher on this topic,” explained WVU Small Farm Center Program Leader Tom McConnell.
A one-day farm, forestry and natural resource tax class takes place Nov. 8 in Morgantown and includes information on new legislation, depreciation strategies, tax planning for high income years, timber taxation and business matters surrounding Marcellus and Utica.
A one-day health care reform federal tax class takes place Dec. 9 in Morgantown and Dec. 11 in Charleston. This class will include coverage of many issues surrounding the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act including tax implications, who qualifies, who is grandfathered, adult child provisions, benefit limitations and reporting procedures.
“I feel good knowing that those who attend these workshops will be well prepared to help their many clients across the state better manage their tax liability,” McConnell added.
