WVU Safety and Health Extension to host safety fair focusing on workplace accident prevention
West Virginia University Safety and Health Extension will host a safety fair on Thursday, Oct. 31, that will focus on safety knowledge and prevention of injuries and accidents on the job.
The free event will be held in the WVU Alumni Center parking lot from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It was designed by WVU Safety and Health Extension and is sponsored by Grainger Industrial Supply.
WVU Safety and Health Extension has a 23-year history of working with West Virginia businesses to prevent injuries and illnesses, and increase safety and health knowledge in the workplace.
At the Alumni Center, numerous vendors will display and demonstrate the latest safety gear, tools and equipment including 3M, Stanley Hand Tools, MSA, Salisbury, MCR Safety, Louisville Ladder and more. There will be contests, prizes, promotional giveaways and a variety of food vendors on the site.
“It’s important to keep West Virginia businesses and employees up-to-date with the latest technologies in workplace safety,” said WVU Extension Service Safety Specialist Richard Jolliff. “The fair gives us the opportunity to showcase vital information that could be the difference in keeping someone safe on the job.”
Four training and education sessions will be held during the day at the media center of Lincoln Hall on Rawley Avenue.
Miller Fall Protection hosts the morning’s first course on fall prevention in the workplace at 9 a.m. A Confined Space Entry and Air Monitoring workshop from Mine Safety Appliances will follow at 10 a.m.
The afternoon sessions begin with Arc Flash (electrical explosion) prevention from Salisbury at 1 p.m., followed by Control of Hazardous Energy with the Log Out/Tag Out process hosted by Brady Corporation at 2 p.m.
After the presentations, the representatives from the companies will be on hand to take answer questions.
Pre-registration is not required for the sessions or demonstrations, which are both free to the public.
