The West Virginia University Public Relations Student Society of America is hosting a duct tape-themed tailgate prior to the Homecoming matchup against Texas Tech from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 19 as a part of the annual Duck Brand Challenge.
The tailgate will feature food, beverages, games, raffles and prizes created out of WVU-themed duct tape as WVU PRSSA competes with other chapters from various colleges and universities in the Duck Brand Challenge. The goal of the challenge is to build awareness for the duct tape brand on campus and communicate the brand’s values of friendliness, imagination and fun.
Duck Brand is licensed through the NCAA and is currently sold in more than 200 colors. The product is designed to provide college students with the ability to build and create things like dorm room necessities, decorations, apparel, jewelry and quick fixes.
Each team is given 18 rolls of duct tape to promote, organize and decorate a WVU duct tape themed tailgate. All participating chapters receive $200, but the team with the most media coverage, accurate brand representation, proper execution, tailgate attendance and promotional materials has a chance of winning the first place prize of $1,000.
“Last year was the first year we participated in the Duckbrand Challenge,” said WVU PRSSA President Brittany Lavenski. “We learned a lot and are hoping to make this year’s tailgate more interactive and fun.”
The event will take place in the light blue lot (Ruby Memorial Hospital parking lot) near pole F2.
