For the second year in a row, the Department of Communication Studies at West Virginia University is hosting its speed-networking event to connect alumni with current students.

The session, which is part of the department’s 2013 “COMM Home” homecoming weekend, is at 3 p.m. Oct. 18 in the Gold Ballroom in the Mountainlair on the downtown campus. One hundred students are expected to participate.

“The enthusiasm from the students and the alumni has been overwhelming,” said Andrea Weber, associate professor of communication studies and the event’s coordinator. “We’ve had to expand the event because of the tremendous response.”

“We also have alumni from New York, Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C., North Carolina and all over West Virginia in a huge variety of fields. We are very excited for this event!”

During the session, students will be split into groups of roughly five and brought to a table with an alumnus. For 10 minutes, they can ask career questions and solicit advice. When the time limit bell rings, students will move to another table where they’ll meet a different alumnus.

Students who have not registered but are interested in attending can contact Weber and be placed on a waiting list.

The speed-networking event precedes the 2013 COMM Home Reunion. The reunion will be at 5 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Clarion Hotel Morgan, 127 High St.
