As alumni make their way home to West Virginia University this weekend for annual Homecoming festivities, there will be plenty of events on campus to renew their enthusiasm for their alma mater.

On Friday (Oct. 18), alumni and friends are invited to stop by The Erickson Alumni Center for an open house where they can view their alumni home, enjoy some Flying WV cookies and punch, and catch up with old friends. The open house runs from 2:30-5 p.m.

“Homecoming is a busy weekend for our graduates,” said Stephen L. Douglas, president and CEO, WVU Alumni Association. “It’s a time to reminisce with former classmates, see the changing campus and of course enjoy all of the activities planned throughout the weekend. This is an exciting time on campus, and we’re looking forward to seeing our graduates for this special weekend.”

Later that evening, thousands of alumni, students, and members of the Morgantown community will line High Street to watch the 2013 Homecoming Parade featuring Parade Marshal Darryl Talley, Outstanding Alumnus Verl Purdy, the alumni band, The Pride of West Virginia, floats and much more.

The University Chapter of the WVU Alumni Association will host a welcome home celebration and canned food drive at Chic ‘n Bones Rhythm Caf on Chestnut Street beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 18. All grads and fellow Mountaineers are encouraged to bring two canned food items for The Rack – WVU’s student food pantry. Those who bring canned food items will receive free admission and appetizers and beverages (while quantities last).

Alumni can also take advantage of several sporting events planned for that weekend, including soccer and volleyball, as well as the football game on Saturday. Mountaineer Idol will take place on Friday night, featuring the top five finalists.

Various campus groups also will be hosting Homecoming activities on Friday and Saturday. For a complete list of these events, visit http://homecoming.wvu.edu/.
