WVU Community Theatre registering ages 6-14 for 'Disney's Aristocats KIDS'
It’s time for your child to take the stage. West Virginia University’s Community Theatre Program, running from Sept. 29-March 1, is currently registering kids ages 6-14 for classes and rehearsals for its annual production of “Disney’s Aristocats KIDS,” based on the 1970 animated film “The Aristocats.”
Registration will be held on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 4:30 in the main lobby of the Creative Arts Center.
No prior experience is necessary to participate, and kids will meet once a week on Sundays, from October to February, culminating in a full week of rehearsals for two public performances in February in the Antoinette Falbo Theatre located in the Creative Arts Center.
Joann Siegrist, professor of puppetry and creative drama, oversees the WVU Community Theatre program, and with the success of last year’s “The Wizard of Oz” is ready to take a new jazzy direction with the production.
The director of the show is student Amber Wright, who is currently studying for a bachelor’s degree in theater. Wright has been involved in theater for more than nine years. Last year she was assistant director of the children’s show, “The Wizard of Oz,” and most recently she was a camp counselor at Glen Echo Park. Along with her experience in theater and working with children, she has more than six years of dance
experience.
Assistant directors are Bobby Eure (director of “The Wizard of Oz”) and Gareth Goans, also a Bachelor of Arts theater student; scenic designer is Bachelor of Arts theater student Cameron Williams, and musical director is WVU student Ben Sala.
The final dress rehearsal for “Disney’s The Aristocats KIDS” is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 28, and the two performances will be held Friday and Saturday, Feb. 28 and 29.
The cost of tuition is $350 per child, and with two or more children from the same family, the fee drops to $300 per child.
