West Virginia University issued the following statement upon learning of the death of a student early Sunday:

“We are deeply saddened by the news of this hit-and-run tragedy that occurred on Patteson Drive early Sunday morning. Joseph Dzuris, 22, of Harper’s Ferry, was a three-year Resident Assistant in Housing and currently completing a degree in civil engineering while working night shift in our residence hall.

“Our heartfelt sympathies go out to Joseph’s family and many friends, and the countless students whose lives he touched so meaningfully. Counseling services will immediately be provided through WELLWVU: 304.293.4431. WVU Student Affairs has been in touch with Joseph’s family to offer support and comfort. A bell-ringing service in his honor will be announced at an appropriate time.

“Anyone with information on this accident is asked to call the Morgantown Police Department at 304.284.7522.”
