Larry F. Mazza was president of Empire National Bank by the age of 29. An alumnus of the West Virginia University College of Business and Economics, that achievement tells a lot about the West Virginia native who is now CEO of MVB Financial Corp.

Mazza will kick off the fall College of Business and Economics Distinguished Speaker Series Sept. 11 at the WVU Mountainlair Ballrooms at 1:30 p.m.

“Larry Mazza is a highly successful banking executive, but he’s also much more than that,” said Nancy McIntyre, senior associate dean at the College. “He is an entrepreneur and co-owner of a nationally recognized sports media business. In his capacity as a veteran banker, he has been credited with the significant growth of assets, profits and return on assets in every banking position he has held. He’s a real success story, and I believe our students and the University community can learn much from him.”

MVB Financial Corp. now includes MVB Bank, MVB Mortgage and MVB Insurance. MVB is a leading community bank in West Virginia and is expanding its footprint into Virginia.

A proven effective leader and civic-minded volunteer who serves on boards of both public companies and non-profit organizations, Mazza also serves on the MVB Financial Corp. Board of Directors. He is a recognized name in West Virginia banking with more than 25 years of experience in both large banks and community banks. He is a member of the West Virginia Board of Banking and Financial Institutions, part of the state’s banking regulatory and oversight agency.

Prior to joining MVB in 2005 to lead its geographic expansion and growth, Mazza was senior vice president & retail banking manager for BB&T in the West Virginia North region that consisted of 33 financial centers with $2 billion in assets and more than 300 employees. He was employed by BB&T and its predecessors from 1986 to 2005.

Also a certified public accountant, Mazza graduated from WVU in business administration, after which he joined KPMG, a “Big Four” accounting firm. Since 2007, he has served as a board member for PDC Energy, a NASDAQ-listed company headquartered in Denver, Colo.

Mazza is a partner, along with Mike Florio, in a global business venture called Football Talk, LLC, a recognized and respected source for the latest information on the NFL. Profootballtalk.com has a well-established and growing website and mobile presence with millions of users on a monthly basis. The primary websites include profootballtalk.com and collegefootballtalk.com. The company is also a key content provider for NBC SportsTalk. To this, Mazza helped to create an innovative revenue model for the site which enabled PFT to maintain 100 percent ownership of the venture in its partnership with NBC Sports.

Mazza resides in Clarksburg.
