West Virginia University music faculty member Andrew Kohn will present a double bass recital, Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the Creative Arts Center.

The concert begins at 8:15 in Bloch Learning and Performance Hall (200A) and is free and open to the public.

Joining Dr. Kohn for the performance will be pianist Rob Frankenberry, and WVU music faculty members Cynthia Anderson on the English horn, and William Haller on piano.

Kohn said this program has two halves—serious music on the first half, lighter music on the second.

The program includes “Adagio” (1905) by Zoltn Kodly, “Seiza” (2005) by Fernando Millet, “Mount Everest” (2008) by Benedykt Konowalski, “Litaniae” (2012) by Violeta Dinescu and “Sonata” (1982) by Erzebet Szőnyi. The second half will feature “Twinkletoes” (2008) by Andrew Kohn, “Readings from Steppenwolf” (1980) by Jon Deak and “Jugendfeuer Galopp, op. 90” (1836) by Johann Strauss Sr.

Kohn holds a doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh and received the only Artist Diploma in double bass awarded by the Peabody Conservatory. The former principal bassist of the National Chamber Orchestra and Harrisburg Symphonies, he is also a member of the Pittsburgh Opera and Ballet Theatre orchestras and an active soloist.
