C.B. Wilson, associate provost for academic personnel at West Virginia University, will conduct the Morgantown Municipal Band when it performs its Independence Day program at Hazel Ruby McQuain Park at 11 a.m. July 4.

The performance is part of the 2013 Celebration of America.

“This annual concert has become a favorite for many residents of the greater Morgantown community, and I always look forward to it,” Wilson said. “This year’s program will feature some old favorites, and will appeal to all ages.”

In keeping with a long-standing tradition, Wilson will tie the program together with a theme that is not announced in advance. The program includes music by John Philip Sousa, Victor Herbert, Stephen Foster, Irving Berlin and others.

This concert marks the 23rd anniversary of the beginning of the series, which has been continuous since 1990.

Patrons are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets, and sun protection (hats, umbrellas). Parking is available in the Municipal Parking Garage in the Wharf District.

The program is sponsored by RTanner Associates, PLLC, CPAs, and WesBanco Bank, under the auspices of the Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners (BOPARC), with assistance from the WVU College of Creative Arts. Funds for this performance are furnished in part by Local 580, American Federation of Musicians. The Morgantown Municipal Band is an associate of Arts Monongahela.
