Wafik Iskander and Jim Dean were recently reappointed to their respective administrative posts in the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University for five-year terms, beginning July 1, 2013.

Iskander serves as chair of the Department of Industrial and Management Systems Engineering, while Dean is director of the Department of Mining and Industrial Extension.

“Our Department has grown steadily in the past 10 years and the quality of our students gets better each year,” said Iskander. “We provide our students with an excellent education and quality research opportunities. Our success can be attributed to the dedication and hard work of our faculty and staff, and to the support we get from alumni, members of our visiting committee, and from University and College administration. It will be my pleasure to continue to serve as chair.”

“Dr. Iskander is to be complimented for encouraging and supporting an environment conducive to student learning in his department,” said Gene CIlento, Glen H. Hiner Dean of the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources. “He cares about the welfare of the department and shows good support of College activities. I congratulate him on a job well done.”

“The success of the Department of Mining and Industrial Extension can be tied directly to the quality of our faculty and staff,” said Dean. “It is my privilege to work with them in order to continue to better serve the needs of our customers.”

“Jim Dean is recognized within the state and has a growing national reputation in the mine health and safety profession,” said Cilento. “Under his leadership, the quality of the programs within the Department has continued to improve and it has seen a growth in support from external constituents and industry clients.”

Department chairs are reviewed every five years by the dean of the college. Evaluations include input from faculty members, staff, students and other constituents.
