Eight students who are graduating in May from West Virginia University’s Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing Program will read from their work Thursday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the Rhododendron Room of the Mountainlair.
The reading is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
The graduating students have published work in a wide range of literary journals, including Hawaii Review, Rosebud, Scissors and Spackle, Midwestern Gothic, and Connotation Press.
One of the graduates, Sara Kearns, is the founding editor of Siren: A Journal of Literature and Art.
“This is an impressive group of writers,” said Mark Brazaitis, professor of English and director of the Creative Writing Program. “We will be hearing a lot from them in the future.”
The writers and their hometowns are: Melissa Atkinson (Westminster, Md.); Ben Bishop (Burlington, Ky.); Rebecca Childers (Huntington, W.Va.); Sara Kearns (Pittsburgh, Pa.); Connie Pan (Maui, Hawaii, and Grand Rapids, Mich.); Andi Stout (Belington, W.Va.); Shane Stricker (Sikeston, Mo.); and Rebecca Thomas (Costa Mesa, Calif.).
