Students studying for a bachelor of fine arts degree in acting in the West Virginia University School of Theatre & Dance will present a showcase performance, Thursday, March 28, at Studio Theatre/Theatre Row in New York City.

The goal of the BFA Actor Showcase 2013 is to help graduating students make industry contacts and create work opportunities for the future. It is also a transitional experience for the students as they move into their professional careers.

WVU students presenting the BFA Actor Showcase 2013 include Ariana Ballerini, C.J Bonde, Dominique Brown, Jenna Grace Dorece, Nicolas Hanni, Kayla Hudgins, McKenna Kirchner, Josh Leeper, Sarah Reddy and Will Stout.

The students will perform contemporary scenes for invited entertainment industry professionals, including talent agents, casting directors and career managers from the New York City area. The scenes were chosen by the students who took into consideration personal style, type and casting possibilities.

WVU Assistant Professor of Theatre Lee Blair, director of the BFA Program in Acting and adviser for the showcase, said there is much more to being a working actor beyond learning the craft of acting.

“Faculty members in the WVU School of Theatre & Dance continue to work as professionals in their fields, and the business of theater is viewed as a crucial aspect to all our students’ education,” he said.

“Whether selecting a headshot photographer, constructing a resume, renting a theatre space or researching agents and casting directors, the BFA Actor Showcase allows our graduating students to produce, plan, promote and execute a production of their choosing to an audience in the recognized mecca in this country for theater—New York City.”

WVU alumni and other guests in the New York area are also invited to this showcase performance so that they can experience the fine work being done by the School of Theatre & Dance and its current students.

The BFA Actor Showcase 2013 will be held Thursday, March 28, at 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at the Studio Theatre at Theatre Row, 410 W. 42nd Street, New York, N.Y.

Admission is free, but those attending should make reservations in advance. For more information, or to make reservations for seating, please contact Lee Blair in the WVU School of Theatre & Dance by calling 304-293-6100 or 304-661-5889.
