Fred L. King, Ph.D., vice president for research at West Virginia University, was one of four new members elected to the Oak Ridge Associated Universities board of directors recently.

ORAU is a 109-member university consortium, linked with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The group is composed of university faculty and students who collaborate on major scientific initiatives that enhance the scientific research and education enterprise of the United States.

ORAU’s board of directors provides policy and fiduciary oversight of ORAU operations for its membership.

At WVU, Dr. King oversees the research enterprise for WVU, including Health Sciences and regional campuses. His responsibilities also include the management of operations of the research office, which facilitates faculty led research at WVU. The office provides support not only to the areas of proposal submission and compliance, but also in federal relations, project management, shared research facilities operation, HR, and purchasing through the WVU Research Corporation.

“ORAU is an organization that I have been familiar with since beginning my academic career,” King said. “I consider it to be one of the world’s premier science education and outreach organizations, and I am honored to have been elected to serve as a member of the board.”

Joining King as elected members of the board are: Dr. Larry Dooley from Clemson University; Dr. Taylor Eighmy, of the University of Tennessee; and Dr. David Reed, of Michigan Technological University.

“These new directors bring a wealth of leadership to the ORAU board of directors,” said ORAU President and CEO Andy Page. “Their knowledge and experience will be a strong complement to this multi-disciplinary team as we continue to work together to meet our strategic objectives over the coming years.”
