The president of the West Virginia University Figure Skating Club will direct and appear in performances of “Cinderella on Ice” on March 9 and March 10 at the Morgantown Ice Arena. Tickets to the performance, which will begin at 4:30 p.m. on March 9 and 6 p.m. on March 10, are $6 in advance and $8 at the door. WVU students pay $5 in advance and $6 at the door. Children under 3 can attend for free.

All proceeds will benefit the Mason-Dixon Figure Skating Club, a Morgantown-based organization dedicated to offering young people the chance to perform in shows and exhibitions as well as to test at various skill levels through the U.S. Figure Skating Association. Members of the Mason-Dixon Figure Skating Club, as well as BOPARC’s “Skate With Us” program, will perform in the show.

Angela Kreger, who recently graduated from WVU with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and is now pursuing a master’s in nursing at the University, is the show’s principal director. She is assisted by other members of the WVU Figure Skating Club, including WVU student Gina Geils and Fairmont State University student Shaun Adams. Kreger, Geils and Adams will also perform in the show, although the key roles are performed by younger skaters.

Kreger said the skaters have been working on the show since September.

“It will be similar to Disney on Ice, with many levels of skating presented,” she said. “The audience will be very entertained.”

Kreger is a U.S. Figure Skating Gold medalist in both moves in the field and freeskating. She is the skating coach for a number of the skaters who will appear in “Cinderella on Ice.” Adams, who is double majoring in architecture and graphics technology at Fairmont State, has been skating for 14 years and coaching and doing choreography for six years. Geils, a sophomore nursing student at WVU, has been skating competitively since she was six years old and has been coaching for five years. She is a member of the DuPage Figure Skating Club out of Chicago and hopes one day to be a cast member of Disney on Ice.

The faculty adviser to the WVU Figure Skating Club, Mark Brazaitis, a professor in the Department of English and the director of the Creative Writing Program, believes the show will appeal to people of all ages.

“Cinderella is a fun story, but it’s even more fun on ice,” he said. “People will be impressed with the talent exhibited by all the skaters—even the littlest skaters who play birds and mice.”
