Food banks, animal shelters and other non-profit organizations around the country will be getting a little lift thanks to the generosity of the Mountaineer community.
The West Virginia University Alumni Association and more than 30 chapters are joining together for the annual nationwide game watch celebration and community service project on March 2. As the WVU men’s basketball team takes on Kansas, chapter volunteers from San Diego to Tampa will be cheering for the team while providing a bit of a community service in their local areas.
“We’ve been coordinating this community service initiative with the help of our chapter volunteers for nearly 10 years,” said Stephen L. Douglas, president and CEO, WVU Alumni Association. “Joining together in this fashion provides an opportunity not only to bring fans and alumni together to watch WVU, but it also provides much needed assistance to charities in their local communities. And, that is what the true Mountaineer spirit is all about – community.”
In previous years, the chapters have supported WVU Children’s Hospital, cancer research, food banks and other non-profit organizations. This year, each chapter has selected a charity, and funds raised from this event will be put back into their local communities.
To make the event more fun, the WVU Alumni Association provides numerous giveaways and sports memorabilia to be used as part of the watches. To view a complete list of chapter game watches and their charities, visit http://bit.ly/Ve7vTF.
