The remodeling of the Mountainlair Sbarro is almost complete, and the restaurant will now be operated by West Virginia University Dining Services. The restaurant is tentatively scheduled to open during the first week of February.

The renovation includes a major remodeling of the store with new tile, counters, lighting, signage, kitchen equipment and an improved exhaust system. The renovation also includes additional pizza ovens to accommodate an expected increase in customers.

The reopening of Sbarro will coincide with the introduction of Sbarro’s new Neapolitan-style pizza recipe. The new pizza recipe marks a return to the company’s Italian roots. The Neapolitan-style recipe features all natural ingredients, including dough made from scratch daily, vine-ripened whole tomatoes and freshly shredded whole milk mozzarella.

Sbarro will now join many of the Mountainlair restaurants in incorporating student dining plans, Bonus Bucks and Mountie Bounty into its payment processing systems. It will also continue to accept cash and credit card payments.

“It is our hope that students will enjoy the improved products and services offered at this location,” said David Friend, director of Dining Services.

Sbarro will be open seven days a week for lunch and dinner and will accept dining plans for the dinner time period.
