West Virginia University Police are seeking information about an urn found on WVU property that is believed to contain human cremains.

The urn was found by WVU facilities employees in a wooded area of University property on Outlook Street in Morgantown. It appeared to have been exposed to the elements for an extended period before being found, according to Capt. Phil Scott.

Local law enforcement officials worked with WVU police on the investigation but have not found the owner. There had been one previously reported case of cremains being stolen but the family in that case has been contacted and the urn did not match the one they reported stolen.

Local funeral homes were also contacted but none could provide any information that has led to the rightful owner.

Anyone who may have information is asked to contact Scott at 304-293-3136.
