One of the latest YouTube sensations is a video depicting a “golden eagle” snatching and releasing a child in Canada.

This video has generated a lot of talk about its veracity and the behavior of eagles.

West Virginia University research assistant professor Todd Katzner is available to speak about the birds’ behavior. He has studied golden eagles for decades and is working to understand migratory patterns and how the species would be affected by wind turbines used in energy production. Though the birds are commonly found in western states, Alaska and Canada, Katzner has discovered that a surprising number of golden eagles winter in Appalachia.

Katzner can be reached at 304-293-7473 and Todd.Katzner@mail.wvu.edu.
