When the West Virginia University football team and its supporters arrive in New York City for the New Era Pinstripe Bowl next week, they will be greeted with familiar images of WVU on the big video billboards at Times Square and at Macy’s department store, as well as several pre-game events jointly planned by the WVU Alumni Association and the NY-NJ Metro Chapter.

Fans can enjoy a “welcome” social hosted by the NY-NJ Metro Chapter at Hudson Station (440 9th Ave., NYC) on Friday, Dec. 28, beginning at 6 p.m. Hudson Station will offer food and drink specials for Mountaineer fans.

On Saturday (Dec. 29), join the NY-NJ Metro Chapter and the WVU Alumni Association at Rathbones Pub (1702 2nd Ave.) for a Mountaineer Meet and Greet beginning at noon for giveaways, food/ drink specials, highlight videos, subway passes (for the first 100 fans showing game tickets), and more.

“We are so excited Mountaineer fans will be traveling to New York to enjoy the 2012 Pinstripe Bowl. The NY-NJ Metro Chapter is pleased to coordinate a few activities that will bring alumni and fans together and give them a chance to enjoy all that this city has to offer,” said Liam Gilroy, president of the chapter.

And as in previous excursions to the Big Apple for the Big East Basketball Tournament, the University Relations award-winning creative team has assembled a 30-second video to be shown in Yankee Stadium during the game as well as the “spectaculars” in Times Square and at Macy’s.

The specially designed 30-second spot touting the University’s news website, WVUToday (similar to one that is shown at Milan Puskar Stadium and the WVU Coliseum) will play on the Times Square and Macy’s “spectaculars” from Dec. 26-31.

And on Dec. 29, at the game itself against the Syracuse Orange, which kicks off at 3:15 p.m. several WVU videos will be featured:

Also, a special webpage, http://bowlgame.wvu.edu, has been created with a full schedule of events and places to leave the team a message.
