The newest West Virginia University student to be named Mountaineer Idol will be crowned at 3 p.m. on Sunday (Nov. 4) at the Metropolitan Theatre.

The Mountaineer Idol finale will signify the end of Mountaineer Week, the University’s annual celebration of Appalachian history and culture.

The top three finalists are: sophomore theatre major Alexa Gonzalez, junior sport and exercise psychology major Scott Link and junior exercise physiology major Paris Winfrey.

The three remaining finalists will each be performing three songs, one they’ve already sung throughout the competition to this point, another song of their choice and one that Mountaineer Idol co-hosts Steve Staffileno and Chelsea Malone have selected for them.

The exciting finale will also showcase a group performance of “Somebody to Love” from the hit TV show Glee. In addition, there will be individual performances from recently eliminated finalists Patrick Garcia and Paige Madden.

Before the new Mountaineer Idol is crowned, Malone, the 2011 Mountaineer Idol, will perform a song as she passes the title onto this year’s winner.

The newly crowned Mountaineer Idol will receive $1,000. The first and second runner-up will receive $750 and $250, respectively.

The Mountaineer Idol Competition finale is sponsored by Coca-Cola, Coni & Franc and Daniel’s.
