The halls of the West Virginia University Creative Arts Center will be alive with music on Saturday, Oct. 27, as more than 100 students and voice teachers will gather for the annual Tri-State National Association of Teachers of Singing student competition.

The finals of the event will take place from 2-6 p.m. in the Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre.

High school, college and adult-level singers from the southeast Ohio, western Pennsylvania and northern central West Virginia regions will be competing in up to 24 different categories, including musical theater and classical sections. More than 25 voice teachers will be accompanying their students to the event.

“The event is a wonderful opportunity for students to grow as singers as they are able to receive feedback from three other voice teachers aside from their own,” said Nick Perna, assistant professor in the WVU School of Music and an organizer of the event.

More than 30 students from WVU will also be participating in the competition.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Nick Perna at Nick.Perna@mail.wvu.edu or 304-294-4537.
