A timeless tradition to showcase the quilting talent of dozens of West Virginia quilters will once again be making its way to West Virginia University.

Mountaineer Week is proud to announce that the 2012 quilt show will be held Friday through Sunday (Oct. 26-28) in the Mountaineer Room of the Mountainlair. The show is presented by the Country Roads Quilt Guild, a Morgantown-based group that has been involved with the area since 1983.

“Quilt makers from across West Virginia come to the Mountaineer Week Quilt Show because quilts are such an iconic piece of Appalachian history,” said Emily Vandevender, quilt show co-chairperson. “This quality is characteristic of West Virginia, because our ancestors were resourceful and creative enough to survive in challenging times, as the people in the Mountain State generally are.”

The times of the show will be as follows: Oct. 26 from noon to 8 p.m., Oct. 27 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Oct. 28 from noon to 5 p.m.

Quilt viewers will have an exclusive chance to vote for their favorite quilt display. The Viewer’s Choice Voting will begin at the opening on Friday and last until 3 p.m. on Sunday. Ribbons marking first, second and third places will be awarded to the winners.

Viewers can enter a drawing to win an “Opportunity Quilt” that is designed to help aid a local non-profit organization. The charity chosen for this year’s show is Timmy’s Fund. Founded in memory of Timothy Quigley, Timmy’s Fund is an organization dedicated to assisting families who have a child battling cancer. All gifts and donations to Timmy’s Fund will be used to relieve the financial and emotional burdens of families who are undergoing treatment at WVU’s Children Hospital.
