West Virginia University’s Family Fun Day, sponsored by Mylan Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and held during Mountaineer Week, will be hosting activities, performances, and games that stimulate the imagination, encourage physical activity and bring the entire family together. Events will run from 12-5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27th.

The celebration will begin with the presentation of colors by the WVU Army ROTC and 2011 Mountaineer Idol winner, Chelsea Malone, singing the national anthem. Festivities include face painting, W.Va. children’s’ literature authors & storytelling featured in an Appalachian one room schoolhouse, a Mountaineer costume contest, Games Before Computers, a Best Pepperoni Roll contest, the Inaugural Mountaineer Week Literary Publication, “Voices of Appalachia” and more.

Special guests will include some of the Mountaineer mascots of the past, current mascot, Jonathan Kimble, a visit from the Washington Wild Things mascot and folk music provided by Second Cousin which is made up of a group of WVU professors.

Mountaineer Week is an annual celebration of Appalachian history and culture that takes place from Oct. 26 through Nov. 4 this year.
