The West Virginia University School of Art & Design will present its first Juried Student Exhibition during Oct. 24 to Nov. 7 in the Creative Arts Center’s Douglas O. Blaney Lobby.

“This is an exciting and unique event for us as it will be the first juried student art show ever held by the WVU School of Art & Design,” said Jason Lee, event coordinator and assistant professor of art and sculpture at WVU.

Martin Mazorra, a WVU alumnus, printmaking artist, and co-founder of the Cannonball Press in Brooklyn, N.Y., will be serving as the juror of the event.

Mazorra received his bachelor of fine arts degree from WVU in 1994.

He is currently the coordinator of printmaking at Parson’s School of Design in New York City, where he teaches lithography, woodcut and letterpress printmaking classes.

The opening reception for the Student Juried Exhibition will take place Wednesday, Oct. 24 from 5-7 p.m., at which time the awards will be announced.

All events are free and open to the public.

Monetary awards include a $300 award for Best in Show, two $200 College of Creative Arts Dean’s Purchase Awards; and $100 awards for Juror’s Choice, the School of Art & Design Director’s Choice, and the Judy Raese Arts Award.
Awards will be announced at the opening reception.
