The annual Fall Percussion Ensemble Concert, to be held Friday, Oct. 19, at the West Virginia University Creative Arts Center, will feature an exciting pairing of the Percussion Ensemble with the WVU Drumline, along with two soloists performing electrifying marimba concertos.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre.
The concert will include a high-energy marimba concerto by Keiko Abe called “The Wave” which will be performed by Matthew Zeh, a senior music education student from Morgantown.
”’The Wave’ is one of most energetic and beautiful marimba concertos in the repertoire,” said George Willis, director of the WVU Percussion program.
WVU drum set artist Al Wrublesky will be joining the group on John Beck’s “Concerto for Drum Set and Percussion Ensemble.”
Wrublesky has been at WVU for more than 30 years and studied under former percussion director and Dean Emeritus of the College of Creative Arts, Phil Faini.
One of the highlights of the Oct. 19 concert will be the WVU Drumline performing some of their traditional cadences, including “Tunnel” and “Boogie,” among others.
“The WVU Drumline makes a fabulous addition to the concert,” Willis said. “Two drastically different forms of music come together beautifully on this program.”
The finale of the program will include the WVU Percussion Ensemble joining with the Drumline in an exciting collaboration.
Tickets for the Percussion Ensemble Concert are available at the Mountainlair and Creative Arts Center Box Offices or by calling 304-293-SHOW.
