The 150th anniversary celebration of the Morrill Act. Record private giving. Strategic research achievements. Record enrollment. National rankings. Entrance into a powerhouse academic and athletic conference.

It’s been a great year to be a Mountaineer, and President Jim Clements recounted those achievements during his annual State of the University address to the Faculty Assembly on Oct. 8.

He also outlined the ways West Virginia University will continue to advance, including adding faculty in key interdisciplinary areas to address state and national needs, especially in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and health.

He announced creation of University College, which will provide support for students who have yet to select a course of study or who are general studies majors, and addressed ways WVU is meeting the goals of the 2020 Strategic Plan and National Research Council recommendations.

He also highlighted some of the special students and faculty members as examples of why WVU is “the best at everything we do … and we do it with the highest level of quality…and nothing less.”
