West Virginia University jazz musicians will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 15, in the Gladys G. Davis Theatre of the Creative Arts Center.

Conducted by Paul Scea, who is music professor and director of jazz studies, as well as students Wesley Hager, Gregory Thurman and Rafael Smith and faculty member Brian Plitnik, the concert will feature six of the jazz program’s ten small jazz ensembles.

It will feature pieces by student arrangers and there will be two groups featuring a singer. Other performances will include a piano/guitar duo, a Latin-influenced combo, a group with five trombones, and a group playing traditional Brazilian music, Scea said.

The program includes: “Joiner’s Glue” by Ilja Reijngoud and “A Funky Thing Happened on the Way to the Park…” by Rick Hirsch, performed by the group Osteology; “Canto de X�ngo” by Vinicius de Moraes and Baden Powell, performed by the group Brasil; “Shiny Stockings” by Frank Foster and “It Don’t Mean A Thing,” by Duke Ellington, both arranged by student Grace Leong Zhe Fui and performed by the group Latin Standard; “Joy Spring” by Clifford Brown and “Lapar La” by students Grace Leong Zhe Fui and Frank DiDiano, performed by the group Dynamic Duo; ”’Round Midnight” by Thelonius Monk and “Girl From Ipanema” by Antonio Carlos Jobim, performed by the group VJG; and “Silencio” by Rafael Hern�ndez, performed by the group GLQ.
