Nina Assimakopoulos, flute professor at West Virginia University, and the WVU Flute Studio will be host a Fall Flute Fling on Sunday, Oct. 14, at the Creative Arts Center.
The event will feature a day of master classes, workshops, flute music and instrument vendors, as well as a gala concert performance by world-class musicians.
Guest artists for this year’s Fall Flute Fling are Shelley Binder of the University of Tennessee, Julianna Nickel of George Mason University, Lindsey Goodman of the West Virginia Symphony, and Wendy Kumer of the Flute Academy in Pittsburgh.
A world-renowned flutist, Nina Assimakopoulos studied with Peter Lloyd at the Indiana University School of Music and Paul Meisen at the Munich Academy of Music.
Since joining the WVU music faculty last year, she has been working to organize events of this caliber every semester. She also hosts a Spring Flute Fling and had much success hosting an International Flute Symposium at the Creative Arts Center last summer.
“These events are helping to pull the flute community from the tri-state area together under one roof, which creates an enriching experience for all,” she said.
Her career highlights include a solo debut at Carnegie Hall in New York, solo recitals at The Alden Theater “Rising Stars” Concert Series in Washington, D.C., the “Dame Myra Hess Radio Broadcast Concert Series” in Chicago, the “Live from Hochstein” radio broadcast concert series in Rochester, New York, and the AmBul New Music Festival in Sofia, Bulgaria.
She has performed as principal flute with the Munich City Opera, Bavarian Radio Symphony Academy Orchestra, the New Hampshire Symphony Orchestra, and the Toledo Symphony Orchestra.
Activities for the Fall Flute Fling will begin at 8:30 a.m. and continue until 5 p.m.
