A group of students from the West Virginia University Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism is bringing a glimpse of Pittsburgh professional sports to Morgantown.

The WVU chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America will host the Pittsburgh Penguins’ communications team on Monday, Oct. 8 at 5 p.m. in 205 Martin Hall. All students interested in sports communications and marketing are especially encouraged to attend.

Director of Communications Jennifer Bullano and Manager of Communications Jason Seidling will speak to attendees about sports communications, marketing sports through social-media platforms and breaking into the field as young professionals.

Members of WVU’s national award-winning PRSSA chapter realize the value of offering such events to future professionals getting ready to enter the job market.

“We like to provide speakers like this for members because not only is it a way to learn about PR in the sports communication field, but it’s also a great tool for networking and job opportunities,” said PRSSA President Brittany Lavenski.

Admission is $3 at the door with all proceeds benefiting PRSSA’s professional development activities for its members. An informal reception will take place in 101 Martin Hall immediately following the event. Refreshments will be provided, and students will have the opportunity to talk one-on-one with the speakers. RSVP by contacting Michelle Kayda at mkaydaprssa@gmail.com.

One of the six founding chapters, WVU’s PRSSA chapter is a student-run organization that helps students access professional development opportunities and prepare for a career in public relations. The organization’s mission is to serve members by enhancing their knowledge of public relations and providing access to professional development opportunities and to serve the public relations profession by helping to develop highly qualified, well-prepared professionals.
