When West Virginia University graduates return to Morgantown for the Graduate Emeritus Reunion, they will be surprised by the many changes that have taken place on the WVU campus. In 1962, Mountaineer Field was tucked neatly into the “loop” of the downtown campus. The Evansdale campus was just beginning to take shape. And, there was no PRT.

Alumni from the Class of 1962 and other eligible graduates will participate in the 2012 Graduate Emeritus Weekend Aug. 31-Sept. 1 at The Erickson Alumni Center. The event, hosted by the WVU Alumni Association, is a reunion program held each year to provide an opportunity for alumni to celebrate their alma mater.

“Our graduates emeritus are an integral part of the history of the university,” said Stephen L. Douglas, president and CEO, WVU Alumni Association. “Many have not been back to campus, and this reunion serves as an opportunity for them to reconnect to their alma mater and reminisce with old friends.”

The Class of 1962 and other eligible members will enjoy a weekend of activities, including a welcome luncheon hosted by WVU First Lady Beth Clements, followed by afternoon presentations featuring Dean Robert Jones of the Eberly College of Arts & Sciences, professor emeritus Robert DiClerico, and Dean Zito Sartarelli of the College of Business & Economics.

That evening, attendees will participate in an honors reception where members will officially be welcomed into this special group, and on Saturday alumni and guests will enjoy a pre-game event prior to the WVU-Marshall game. Those who aren’t able to attend the game will watch WVU play Marshall during a special game watch at the alumni center. A full schedule of events and information regarding the weekend activities can be found at http://emeritus.wvu.edu.

The Emeritus group began with 20 charter members in 1951 and has grown to more than 2,500 members. A dedicated group of volunteers work together to plan and coordinate this event every year. The group surveyed previous attendees and, based on their feedback, scheduled the 2012 event around a football game.
