Bowfire brings the violin to a whole new level in a musical production that has critics raving and audiences leaping to their feet. This internationally-renowned production will make a stop at the West Virginia University Creative Arts Center on May 17. Directed by Broadway’s Stafford Arima (Ragtime, Altar Boyz), Bowfire is a fully staged theatrical event, earning standing ovations worldwide. Established in 2000, this Canadian company is composed of virtuoso string players who are at the forefront of their respective styles, combined with equally gifted and respected backup musicians: piano/keyboards, bass, drum/percussion, guitars and cello. The fiddlers among the group also double as world-class step and tap dancers, adding yet another dimension of fascinating expertise to the show.
Bowfire has continually proven to be a “must see” event everywhere it is presented, with audiences clamoring for more. This energy-packed performance brings the finest lineup of fiddle and violin virtuosos ever assembled on one stage, taking its audiences on a musical journey that moves seamlessly from jazz; classical; bluegrass; Celtic; rock; gypsy; world; Texas swing, Ottawa Valley and Cape Breton styles; and mixes in incredible step and tap dancing and a beautiful voice.
