The Art Museum of West Virginia University and The Friends of the Museum will host their final “Art Up Close!” event of this academic year with a special invitation to the public to go “behind the scenes” to visit the Art Collection storage at Charles C. Wise Jr. Library, Thursday, May 3.

Guests will be greeted by members of the Art Museum staff who will discuss selected works of art in the collection while introducing guests to procedures in collection storage.

“In museums, collection storage facilities, due to security and climate concerns, usually have restricted access,” said Art Museum Director Joyce Ice. “This ‘Art Up Close!’ event is an opportunity for the public to visit the WVU Art Collection storage and learn about a vitally important aspect of museum operations while viewing art ‘up close and personal.’”

The public tour of the Collection Storage room in Wise Library is from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Guests will gather in the main lobby entrance at Wise Library and will be escorted to the Collection storage.

RSVPs are required as space is limited.

To reserve a place, please call Friends of the Art Museum at 304-293-2141 ext. 1, or e-mail: FriendsOfTheArtMuseum@mail.wvu.edu with your name, phone number, and the number of guests who wish to attend. Confirmation will be sent to you.

The staff of the Art Museum of WVU welcomes the public to this special event.
