The standouts in West Virginia University’s Greek community were honored at the 26th-annual Greek Awards Banquet on Wednesday at the Erickson Alumni Association.

The awards recognized academic achievement of individuals and chapters, community service, leadership development and philanthropy.

Sigma Kappa was named the Betty Miller Best Sorority on Campus. It had the best GPA out of all sororities on campus; more than half of the chapter was on the Dean’s and President’s lists. More than 80 percent of the chapter is involved in other organizations, and its members have performed nearly 2,000 community service hours.

Pi Kappa Alpha was named the Joe Gluck Best Fraternity on Campus. More than 20 members received academic awards and recognition this year. In addition, a significant percentage of the chapter is involved in other organizations on campus and many hold leadership positions.

“We are so proud of these two exceptional fraternities and sororities. They are truly impacting the WVU community in a positive way each day,” said Ashley Staggers, program advisor for fraternities and sororities in Student Organizations Services at WVU.

The Greek Woman of the Year was Natalie Doerr from Pi Beta Phi. She was the president of her sorority and has held leadership positions in several other campus organizations.

“She has shown a commitment to impacting the entire Greek community including the initial proposal to bring Dave Stollman’s ‘Buy In or Get Out’ and Erle Morring’s ‘Hazed and Confused’ programs to campus,” Staggers said.

The Greek Man of the Year was Ryan Cox from Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He serves as the Interfraternity Council president and has been integral in increased collaboration between the Greek communities and Student Government Association.

“He has strived and succeeded in increasing communication and strengthen relations between the fraternities,” Staggers said. “He has shown exceptional growth as a leader.”
