West Virginia University’s Timothy Weadon is one of 10 recipients of the 2012 Student Leader Experience Awards, presented by the Society for the Advancement of Materials and Process Engineering or SAMPE.

Winners of the award are sent to the SAMPE International Symposium and Exhibition to network with peers and industry professionals and increase their understanding of the materials and processes community. SAMPE 2012 will be held in Baltimore May 21-24.

Weadon, a mechanical and aerospace engineering doctoral candidate at the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering, became an active member of SAMPE during the fall semester of 2012 and was nominated and elected to the position of chapter president in January of 2012.

“I am very excited about the opportunities and honor coupled with this award,” said Weadon. “I look forward to meeting distinguished SAMPE leaders from around the world at the conference, gaining international contacts and receiving valuable insight from other experienced professionals.”

“Tim will benefit greatly from the SAMPE Leadership Experience Award, which will give him the opportunity to interact in SAMPE at a high level, by participating and working on a large event, at Baltimore’s Conference and Expo 2012,” said Ever Barbero, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering. Barbero serves as faculty advisor for the Morgantown student chapter of SAMPE.

SAMPE is an international professional member society that provides information on new materials and processing technology either via technical forums, journal publications or books in which professional in the field can exchange ideas. SAMPE also disseminates information about the commercial and industrial applications of material and processing engineering, which includes construction, marine, biomedical and medical, sports and recreation and industrial applications.
