West Virginia University’s College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences will host its Inaugural CPASS Golf Classic at Lakeview Golf Resort & Spa Friday, April 13. Golfers can expect to play with a WVU or NFL celebrity and bid on unique auction items.

An entry fee of $200 per golfer includes a Thursday evening pairings reception and sports auction. On Friday, golfers can grab lunch before the shotgun start. Teams will play 18 holes of golf and gather for an awards reception.

Sport auction items include a signed basketball by Jerry West, handmade WVU quilt, signed WVU football helmet, signed football by Chuck Howley, and a one-of-a-kind WVU baseball bat created by WVU Athletic Training grad Jack Marucci. Marucci is the head athletic trainer at LSU. He designs and manufactures bats for major league baseball players.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the funding of the new CPASS building, scheduled to open in the spring of 2014 on WVU’s Evansdale campus. The $20 million state-of-the-art facility will border the new Evansdale Recreation Fields and will be located adjacent to the Student Recreation Center, creating a wellness precinct on the Evansdale campus.

“The College’s inaugural golf classic offers an opportunity for CPASS alumni and friends to return to their roots and enjoy an afternoon reliving old times,” CPASS Dean Dr. Dana Brooks said. “The fundraising activities open up an avenue for alumni and friends to make a difference in the lives of current and future students.”

The tournament format will be a scramble. Players may register as individuals or a four person team. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams. Registration is being accepted at (304) 293-0842 or twheeler@mail.wvu.edu. or via the link http://cpass.wvu.edu/golf-classic

Each registered team will be paired with a WVU sport “celebrity.” The list of celebrities includes former WVU and NFL football players. Major Harris, Garrett Ford, Fulton Walker, George Henshaw, John Mallory, Mike Sherwood and Quincy Wilson are among the WVU players who will participate. NFL players include
Bob Butts, Bob Dunlevy, Don Donatelli, Undra Johnson, Rod Morris, John Thierry and more.

Prizes include a hole-in-one vehicle giveaway, closest to the pin, longest drive and putting accuracy contests.
