Lynn D. Housner, associate dean and professor in West Virginia University’s College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences, will receive the 2012 Curriculum and Instruction Honor Award and the Physical Education Teacher Education Honor Award from the National Association for Sport and Physical Education.

NASPE is the non-profit professional membership association that promotes quality physical education and sport. NASPE will recognize Housner’s achievements in scholarship and service at its upcoming national convention.

Housner earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and his master’s and doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh.

After graduate school he joined the University of Texas at Austin faculty in 1981. He moved on to serve as associate professor then professor at New Mexico State University. He joined WVU’s staff in 1994 as professor and assistant dean and was promoted to associate dean in 1999.

“I am absolutely thrilled to receive the National Association for Sport and Physical Education Curriculum and Instruction Honor Award and the Physical Education Teacher Education Honor Award,” Housner said. “It is gratifying to be recognized by colleagues for work done in the areas of scholarship and service.

“The support from administrators, collaboration with faculty, and the tireless support of staff at WVU made it possible to receive these awards.

Housner will accept the two awards at the Curriculum and Instruction Forum at the 2012 American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance National Convention & Exposition in Boston, March 13- March 17. He will also be recognized during the NASPE Hall of Fame Banquet on March 16.

“Dr. Lynn Housner is an internationally recognized scholar in the field of physical education teacher education. He is an outstanding role model and mentor for students and peers alike,” states CPASS Dean Dana Brooks. “Dr. Housner is most deserving of the two national awards bestowed by NASPE.”

Professionals in the industry include 15,000 members in areas of teaching, coaching, athletic administration, athletic training, sport management, research and higher education. NASPE is the largest of the five national associations that make up AAHPERD.
