The Big East Conference basketball tournament doesn’t just bring West Virginia University athletes to New York City. Other students and alumni will get to network with potential future employees at this year’s Big East Career Fair on Friday (March 9).

The fair, held at Madison Square Garden from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. has registered 102 employers including companies such as Apple Inc., Progressive Insurance, Meltwater News, MetroStar Systems, PepsiCo, WebMD, Edward Jones, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Baker Hughes and more. A full listing can be found at http://www.bigeastcareerfair.org/bigeast2012/students/org_list.php.

More than 300 WVU students are currently registered for the fair and half of them will travel by bus on Thursday (March 8) to New York. Those interested in participating in the career fair can sign up until Wednesday (March 7) at 5 p.m. at http://www.bigeastcareerfair.org/bigeast2012/students/student_registration.php.

This annual event is offered during the Big East basketball tournament each year and has grown in size since the first event in 2004. Students and alumni from all of the 16 Big East schools are eligible to participate, regardless of major or rank.

“This could be a life-changing experience for a number of our students,” said David Durham, director of the Career Services Center at WVU. “The obvious benefit is that students have an opportunity to meet face-to-face with employers based in the New York City area that do not traditionally recruit on the WVU campus.”

Durham and other staff from the Career Services Center will be on-hand for students during the fair to assist them and answer any questions.

Students in attendance are encouraged to dress professionally and bring several copies of their resumes, which were reviewed in advance by the staff at the Career Services Center.
