West Virginia University’s chapter of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars will welcome local fifth graders to campus for the third March to College Day.

The event will take place Saturday (March 10) from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Business and Economics building and Life Sciences building on WVU’s Downtown Campus.

NSCS will host approximately 50 fifth grade students from Monongalia County Schools to allow them to experience life at WVU for a day and learn the importance of earning a college degree.

“March to College Day provides a great opportunity for fifth graders by enabling them to get a glimpse of college,” said NSCS President Heather Adams, a junior pharmacy major from Reedsville, Pa. “The children always leave March to College Day excited to attend college in the future.”

The event will include hands-on breakout sessions about academics, admissions, student organizations and community service in addition to a science experiment. The students will also tour campus and meet WVU student-athletes.

Parents are encouraged to attend presentations by the Mountaineer Parents Club, the Office of Admissions, Undergraduate Student Recruitment and Financial Aid.

“It’s really amazing to see the students get so excited about their education,” said NSCS Vice President of Planning to Achieve Collegiate Excellence Bethany Warnock, a junior occupational therapy major from Wheeling. “It’s important to encourage students to think about attending college early in their academic careers, and March to College Day does that.”

The NSCS is founded on scholarship, leadership and service. The WVU chapter of NSCS demonstrates its members’ leadership through involvement in service projects on and off campus.
