Chris Wu, violinist with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, will present a guest artist master class at the West Virginia University Creative Arts Center, Saturday, March 3. The event is free and open to the public.

The class will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Room 424A. The class will be followed by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Concert that evening at 7:30 p.m. in the CAC’s Lyell B. Clay Concert Theatre.

The orchestra concert will be conducted by renowned violinist Nikolaj Znaider and will feature pianist Emanuel Ax performing Mozart’s “Piano Concerto No. 22 in E-flat major.” Other works on the program include Wagner’s Prelude and Liebestod from “Tristan und Isolde” and Elgar’s “Enigma Variations.”

Wu’s visit is part of the partnership between the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and the College of Creative Arts that also brings the orchestra to the WVU Creative Arts Center three times each school year as part of the Canady Symphony Series.

Wu enjoys a diverse career as an orchestral and chamber musician, teacher and soloist. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music, he joined the first violin section of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in 1988, and holds the Nancy & Jeffery Leininger First Violin Chair. He has previously served as concertmaster of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and Riverside Orchestra and has performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Tanglewood, and the Rochester and Buffalo Philharmonics.

Tickets for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra concert are available by calling the Heinz Hall box office at 800-743-8560, or by visiting the orchestra online at www.pittsburghsymphony.org/wvu. They will also be available at the door on the evening of the concert.
