Academically-excelling West Virginia University students interested in giving back to their campus and community are encouraged to apply online for the Helvetia (sophomore), Chimes (junior) or Mortar Board (national senior) honoraries.

Information on qualifying criteria and forms are available online at http://weekofhonors.wvu.edu .

Selection is based on a combination of academics, honors and awards, campus activities, community service and contributions to the student’s major field of study or academic department. To be considered, students must have at least a 3.3 GPA for Helvetia and Chimes and a 3.4 GPA for Mortar Board.

In addition, Mortar Board requires at least one recommendation – either from a faculty member or an extracurricular adviser. Applicants may submit two recommendations if they wish. Applicants’ work activities and difficulty of class schedule may also play a factor.

WVU has created special Web pages, linked to the Week of Honors website, where students can view the specific criteria and apply online. Log onto http://weekofhonors.wvu.edu/ and click on honoraries to get started. The application deadline for Mortar Board is Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 11:59 p.m. The application deadline for Helvetia and Chimes is Friday, Feb. 24 at 11:59 p.m.

Students selected for these honoraries will be inducted later this spring.
