The West Virginia University Symphonic Band will perform “In Concert” at the Creative Arts Center, Tuesday, Nov. 8.

The program begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Lyell B. Concert Theatre and will be conducted by Dearl J. Drury, Christopher Nichter and Johnny Leonard.

The program will include: “Gandalf” from “Symphony No. 1, The Lord of the Rings” by Johan deMeij; “Elegy for a Young American” by Ronald LoPresti; “Symphonic Suite” by Clifton Williams; and “Slava!” by Leonard Bernstein, transcribed for band by Clare Grundman.

Following intermission will be: “Arabesque” by Samuel R. Hazo; “In Aeternam” by Stephen Barr, who received his doctorate in composition from WVU in 2007 and is a conductor, composer and orchestrator in the greater Pittsburgh area; and “American Civil War Fantasy” by Jerry Bilik.

The Symphonic Band is a 45-member ensemble, comprised of mostly music majors.
