Students who visit the West Virginia University Student LOT can get a lot more out of it than just a fun tailgating experience.

Calan Miller, a freshman biology major from Charleston, learned that before the WVU vs. Norfolk State home football game at the Student LOT sponsored that week by WELLWVU and Mountaineer Adventure Program.

Miller won a raffle sponsored by the WVU Outdoor Recreation Center, awarding him a trip to Florida for spring break.

The trip includes canoeing, snorkeling, swimming and camping in southern Florida and the Florida Keys. Miller will be visiting the Everglades National Park, John Pennekamp State Park, Bahia Honda State Park and Canaveral National Seashore.

Brett Hagerty, program coordinator of the WVU Outdoor Recreation Center, said the ORC’s extended trips during spring and winter breaks are an unforgettable experience.

“These trips allow students to get to know a new group of people and explore and learn new skills and forget about their schoolwork and focus on the beautiful outdoor areas and exciting activities,” Hagerty said.

The ORC is also sponsoring a winter break trip to Texas and New Mexico. This trip includes backpacking, hiking, sightseeing, caving and camping in the Big Bend National Park, Guadalupe Mountains National Park and Carlsbad Caverns National Park.
