West Virginia University has a weekend filled with events centered on its Homecoming festivities.

Voting for WVU’s Homecoming court began today (Sept. 28) at 10 a.m. through 7 p.m. Voting will take place through Thursday (Sept. 29) from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., as well, at booths across campus. Booths are available at the Evansdale Residential Complex, Mountainlair and College of Law. Students will not be allowed to vote through MIX as in past years.

Homecoming queen candidates are: Erin Dailey from Danville, Pa., Julie Diamond from Morgantown, Emily Dill from Scott Depot, Ellie McCoy from Charleston and Kathryn Pappa from Wheeling.

Homecoming king candidates are: Evan Bonnstetter from Morgantown, Alex Folio from Clarksburg, Andrew Heckler from Morgantown, Brett Phillips from Grafton and Christopher Smith from St. Albans.

The Homecoming court will make appearances at the WVU Alumni Association’s tailgate and at the WVU Student LOT prior to the game. The winner of the Homecoming court will be announced at halftime of Saturday’s game.

The WVU Homecoming parade will be held on High Street on Friday (Sept. 30) at 6:30 p.m. A variety of floats, bands and walking units will be participating including the WVU Alumni Band, cheerleaders, dance team, Greek life organizations and other community groups.

Also, for the third straight year, the University Chapter and Black Alumni groups of the WVU Alumni Association will welcome alumni and friends for “Welcome Home” celebrations at 7:30 p.m. at Chic-N-Bones following Friday’s Homecoming parade. Additionally, the University Chapter is raffling off a Nike Pro Combat helmet to benefit scholarships and The Erickson Alumni Center at the event.

Thursday from 3:45 to 5 p.m.: The WVU Geology and Geography department is hosting an alumni event and open house on the third floor of Brooks Hall. There will be recognition and public demonstration events, and University President James P. Clements, Associate Provost Russ Dean, Dean of the Geology and Geography department Robert Jones and WVU Foundation President Wayne King will speak.

Thursday through Sunday: The Division of Theatre and Dance is presenting “Down the Road” by Lee Blessing at the Creative Arts Center. Performance times are 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. More information is available at http://theatre.wvu.edu.

Friday from 9 a.m. to noon: The Geology and Geography is hosting an alumni, student and faculty symposium in 324 and 325 Brooks Hall.

Friday from 1 to 4:30 p.m.: Brooks Hall will have an open house for research labs in the geology and geography department.

Friday from 2 to 3:30 p.m.: A professional development seminar led by Joe Sewash on “Grant Writing for Graduate Students” will be held in 324 Brooks Hall.

Friday from 2 to 6 p.m.: Two field trips by retiring geology professors, Dick Smosna and Ken Martis will be held at the Coal Camps of Monongalia County and Cooper’s Rock State Forest. Friday from 5 to 9 p.m.: WVU Geology and Geography picnic at the Marilla Park Pavilion. Students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends are welcome. Potluck contributions are welcome but not required. There will be shuttles back to the Downtown campus.

Friday at 6 p.m.: The School of Nursing host a Dean’s Reception and Alumni Banquet in the library at Lakeview Resort.

Friday from 7 to 10 p.m.: The WVU Alumni Band is hosting a reunion party at the High Street Banquet Center at 345 High Street. More information is available at http://wvualumniband.org/events.

Friday from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.: The Eberly College of Arts & Sciences hosts its annual Homecoming Reception at the Hotel Morgan Ballroom during and following the Homecoming Parade. Saturday from 7 to 9:30 a.m.: Homecoming game rehearsal for the alumni band will be held at the Shell Building.

Saturday at 1:30 p.m.: The College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences will hold a homecoming tent reception at Tent City 1. More information can be found at http://cpass.wvu.edu.

Saturday at 1:30 p.m.: The College of Engineering and Mineral Resources will hold a homecoming football tent at Upper Tent City. More information can be found at http://cemr.wvu.edu.

Saturday at 1:30 p.m.: The School of Pharmacy will have a homecoming football tent at the Light Blue Lot in Tent City 3.

Saturday at 2 to 2:45 p.m.: There will be a one-time autograph session with former WVU quarterbacks as part of the Don Nehlen Quarterback Scholarship weekend. Cost is $5 per photo.

Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: The School of Nursing hold a lunch at Cooper’s Rock State Park for alumni, faculty and staff.
