The Celtic group Scythian has been added to the lineup for West Virginia Public Broadcasting’s Mountain Stage with Larry Groce in Morgantown on Oct 2. Showtime is set for 7 p.m. at the WVU Creative Arts Center. Scheduled to appear are Ben Sollee, Paul Brady, Joseph Arthur and Vandaveer. Tickets are on sale now at the Mountainlair and CAC box offices, online at ticketmaster.com or by phone at 304-293-SHOW.

Ben Sollee – Ben Sollee’s lively rhythms bring life to the rich tones of his cello. Characteristic percussive techniques blended with his soulful vocals effortlessly marry folky bluegrass to jazz. His first solo album debuted in 2008, after already being named among National Public Radio’s Top 10 Great Unknown Artists of 2007. Sollee is also noted for his political activism, particularly on the subject of mountain-top removal in Appalachia.

Paul Brady – Recognized as a leading modern Irish musician, Paul Brady’s rich voice spans traditional Irish folk, pop and rock. Though a striking transformation from his past work, his most recent album Hooba Dooba (2010) has been well-received. He has quickly become recognized as a rock musician, earning praise from his peers and future collaborators Bob Dylan and Bonnie Raitt.

Vandaveer – Defined by a sound which can only be called soulful, Mark Charles Heidinger forms the alt-folk project Vandaveer. While Heidinger employs a revolving cast of collaborators, Rose Guerin appears most frequently. BrightestYoungThings.com describes Vandaveer as “a fresh sound, with a sense of humor and a turn of whimsy to counteract the melancholy of some of his melodies.”

Joseph Arthur – A poetic folk rocker, Joseph Arthur has been moving crowds since his early performances. Discovered and signed by Peter Gabriel in 1996, Arthur has impressed critics and fans with numerous EPs and albums. He has garnered positive reviews from Entertainment Weekly and Rolling Stone, with The Guardian hailing that he “might just be a genuine mad genius.”

Scythian – Born of a group of street performers in Alexandria, Va., Scythian’s classic Celtic sounds are fired up by their enthusiasm and energy. “Scythian’s enthusiasm is contagious, and shows seem to end with everyone dancing, jumping around, or hoisting glasses,” says The Washington Post.

General admission tickets are $15 in advance and $20 on the day of the show and may be purchased at the Mountainlair and CAC box offices, online at ticketmaster.com and by phone at 304-293-SHOW or 800-745-3000. Tickets may also be purchased at all Ticketmaster outlets.
