The West Virginia University chapter of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars will induct its 2011 class on Sunday (Sept. 18) at 2 p.m. in the Mountainlair.

Recognizing 150 high-achieving students at its annual induction ceremony, NSCS celebrates those students’ current and future scholarship, service and leadership. All inductees boast at least a 3.4 GPA and rank in the top 20 percent of their class.

“NSCS can lead to many opportunities that would otherwise not be possible, such as elite graduate school admissions, study abroad programs and major-market internships,” said Emily Viglianco, vice president of NSCS and induction coordinator. “The students can expect to meet other scholars who share the same interests and dedication to learning as well as gain skills to become leaders in their schools and community.”

Dr. Kristi Wood-Turner, director of the WVU Center for Civic Engagement, will serve as the ceremony’s keynote speaker. Student-Athlete Academics Director Paul Downey is the 2011 Distinguished Honorary Member.

NSCS is an honor society that engages high-achieving students in the top 20 percent of their class. NSCS exists to recognize and elevate high-achievers. It is dedicated to the ideals of scholarship, leadership and service. For more information, visit http://nscs.wvu.edu.
