Narvel Weese, West Virginia University’s vice president for Administration and Finance, announced that Kate Hazen has been promoted to assistant vice president for Administrative Technology Solutions effective Sept. 1.

The promotion recognizes Hazen’s critical role in developing, implementing and supporting business technologies within the division as well across the campus. Hazen and her team were instrumental in developing the technologies needed to complete several mission-critical projects.

These include the implementation of MyAccess, which provided a portal for employee to access various University services and information, the implementation of an integrated time and leave management system; the transition of 1,400 employees to an arrears payment status without interruption in pay and in accordance with applicable laws; the implementation of an online system which streamlined the hiring process for new employees, prevents processing delays, and ensures compliance with legal requirements; and the implementation of a new online parking system to provide additional flexibility for purchasing permits and enforcing violations.

Hazen and her team will the lead the division in planning and upgrading the Oracle eBusiness system (MAP), which when fully implemented, will improve the University’s reporting tools, recruitment and hiring of new employees as well as other critical business administration areas. Hazen’s leadership is a critical part of the division’s long-term goals to infuse technology, standardize business processes, and develop paperless administrative systems.
