West Virginia University’s WELLWVU encourages all students to register online for “My WVU Chart” to receive laboratory tests on the web.

My WVU Chart, which is a free service, offers patients personalized and secure online access to portions of their medical records. It also allows students to help manage and receive information about their health.

“By utilizing My WVU Chart, students will have the ability to view their medical record and participate in their healthcare 24/7,” said Jan Palmer, director of WELLWVU Student Health Services.

With the website, patients can: request medical appointments, view a health summary, view test results, request prescription renewals, access trusted health information resources and communicate electronically and securely with a medical care team.

Patients’ test results are released on My WVU Chart as soon as they are finalized, which generally takes three to four days. However, some tests that are deemed very sensitive in nature are not released on My WVU Chart.

In addition, a parent or guardian can log into their own personal account and obtain access to information regarding their family member. To do so, a Proxy Consent Form must be completed at the Health Information Department.

“If students want their parents to have access to their medical records, they can allow them access,” Palmer said. “Conversely, parents will not have access to the students’ medical information without the students’ consent.”

To sign up, patients must have a My WVU Chart activation code, which students would’ve received at their last clinic visit. To obtain an activation code, you can request one online at: https://mywvuchart.com/. Fill out the personal information when prompted to receive the code.

This code will enable you to login and create your own user ID and password.

As of 2011, WELLWVU does not give laboratory test or X-ray results over the phone.
