Corey Smith, one of modern country’s hottest young artists, will bring his energetic live show to the West Virginia University Creative Arts Center on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 8:30 p.m.

Tickets are on sale now at the Mountainlair and Creative Arts Center box offices, ticketmaster.com and by phone at 304-293-SHOW. Smith is returning to the CAC stage on the heels of his March 6 appearance on “Mountain Stage” where he performed to an energetic and appreciative crowd.

With his gift for attaching sentimental yet unpretentious lyricism to the hip-swaying rhythms of country/blues, Smith has dug his heels into the so-called mainstream country music scene and is standing fast as one of the genre’s top new artists.

The crowds at Corey Smith’s sold-out live performances frequently number in the thousands—quite a change from the times when he never dreamed of much beyond playing for a handful of his college buddies. But, thanks to his astonishing gift for crafting addictively soulful songs and the high-energy reputation of his shows, Corey Smith is one of modern country’s hottest young artists, a quintessentially indie performer with a dedicated following most Nashville-fueled hat racks would trade their flashy limos for.

Nashville-based singer/songwriter Canaan Smith will open the show. He has been working as a professional songwriter, collaborating with country group Love and Theft on the hit song “Runaway,” which reached the Top 10 on the Billboard Country Songs chart. He also recently appeared on the hit show “The Amazing Race” and has been working in the studio on new material of his own.

Tickets are on sale now at the Mountainlair and Creative Arts Center box offices, ticketmaster.com and by phone at 304-293-SHOW or 800-745-3000. Tickets are $22 for the general public and $17 for WVU students with a valid student I.D. (One discounted ticket per I.D.) Download FREE MP3s and learn more at www.coreysmith.com
