About 130 Adventure WV students at West Virginia University will help complete community service projects in and around the Morgantown area on Friday through a partnership with the Center for Civic Engagement.

The event, which will be held for the second straight year on Move-In Day, will allow these students to spend six hours in the community completing a service project of their choice.

“We are thrilled to partner with Adventure WV for this exciting project,” said Brett White, Operations Coordinator at the Center for Civic Engagement. “Last year, students made a lasting impact on our community and we are confident this year will again.”

Students have the choice of the following service projects: maintenance at Coopers Rock State Forest, assist with the preparation of the Morgantown Ice Arena at BOPARC, clean and organize the Morgantown Theatre Company, clean and organize at the Arthurdale Heritage and clean and paint Christian Help, Inc. for a Back-to-School event.

“Adventure WV students already have a strong commitment to service and giving back, so this day provides them an opportunity to get out into their new communities and make a difference,” said Kristi Wood-Turner, Interim Director at the CCE.

These students were allowed to move into their dorms a day earlier than most incoming students and spend the evening participating in team-building activities with the CCE like doing activities, watching a movie and choosing which service project to participate in.

In addition, CCE staff members will lead reflection activities following the service project completion to help students connect their experience to their new homes at WVU, White said.
